Autograph letter signed, dated : Naples, 18 July 1835, to Vincent [i.e. Vincenzo] Bellini in Puteaux, 1835 July 18.

Saying he has received from Turin the scores of Bellini's Beatrice [di Tenda] and Puritani, that Coccia's Marfa at the San Carlo was a "fiaschissimo tutto nuovo," whistled at from beginning to end, and that [I due furbi by] Cordella suffered a similar fiasco at the Teatro Nuovo, asking if he has arranged with Scribe to write a libretto for him, saying of Staffa's Matrimonio per raggione [sic] that the music is "tutto triviale," lacking any novelty, mentioning the debut of Mme Beltrand in [Rossini's] Semiramide to only moderate applause--Mercadante says that she sang "un poco troppo francese," [Mrs. Francesco] Pollini, Zingarelli, etc.
